On Immunogenetic Relationships between the Antigenic Characters Specific to Two Species of Columbidae.

چکیده

REVIOUS papers from this laboratory have described the isolation and P identification in unit-form of the antigenic characters of the red blood cells whereby Pearlneck (Sneptopelia chinensis) and Senegal (St. senegalensis), respectively, differ from Ringdove (Sl. risovia) (IRWIN 1939; IRWIN and CUMLEY 1947). The cellular antigens specific to the respective species are gene determined, but whether only one gene, or several on a single chromosome, are involved in the production of each of these characters is an open question. From the immunological identity or similarity of these antigenic components can be deduced the relationships of the genes producing the characters specific to each of these two species. Such studies form the basis of this paper.

Evolution in Columbidae: additional relationships among the antigenic specificities produced by gene interaction.

Two of the antigenic characters of erythrocytes, that in either identical or related forms differentiate four species of Streptopelia (chinensis, humilis, orientalis, and senegalensis) from a fifth (S. risoria) by interaction of the causative genes, are involved in the appearance in backcross hybrids of additional antigenic specificities to those of the parental species. The cells of backcross ...

Further Studies of the Interrelationships of Cellular Characters in Columbidae.

VIDENCE of the separation into distinct parts of the antigenic comE plex of the erythrocytes of Pearlneck (Streptopelia chinensis) not shared with Ring dove, has been given in a previous report (IRWIN 1939). This separation was observed following backcrosses to Ring dove (St. risoria) of their species hybrid and selected backcross hybrids. The antigenic complex of Pearlneck has been divided by ...

Immunogenetic Studies of Cellular Antigens: Individual Differences between Species Hybrids.

REVIOUS papers from this laboratory have dealt with segregation of antiP genic characters of the red blood cells, peculiar to one or the other of the parental species, in hybrids from matings between Pearlneck (S t rep tope lk chinensis) and Ring dove (St. risoria) , Pearlneck and Senegal (St. senegalensis), and others. The use of the immunological technics described in these papers gave result...

Interrelationships of the Cellular Characters of Several Species of Columba.

MMUNOLOGICAL methods have so often been employed as a means of I differentiating species, particularly in animals but also in plants, that it is almost a truism to state that antigenic differences are one of the more important criteria by which qualitative differences between species may be assayed. In animal species, the serum antigens have been somewhat more widely used in such comparisons th...

Taxonomic Relationships of Ten Fritillaria Species of Subgenera Fritillaria and Theresia Based on Analysis of Flower Qualitative and Quantitative Morphological Characters

Flower morphology of 10 Fritillaria species of subgenera Theresia and Fritillaria growing wild in Iran is studied using seventy morphological characters. Qualitative and quantitative datasets separated taxa into subgenera, sectional and groups. Three enigmatic species F. caucasica, F. zagrica (endemic to Zagros Mountains) and F. pinardii (recently reported from Zagros Mountains) appeared as clo...
